# Replace a chapter recording

> Upload an edited chapter while keeping the pickups you have confirmed.

Use replacement when you want an edited or newly recorded chapter to become the current source for QA.

1. Open **QA** and select the chapter.
2. Check the current filename so you are replacing the right source.
3. Choose **Replace recording**.
4. Select the revised chapter audio and read the replacement note.
5. Choose **Replace and proof** and keep the page open until the upload finishes.
6. Check the new current filename, wait for proofing, and review the new results.

<Note>
  The new file becomes current when its upload completes. It does not wait for proofing to succeed. An incomplete upload leaves the previous source current.
</Note>

## What you keep

Your manual and confirmed pickups stay, including their completion state. A pickup linked to the old recording keeps that source’s filename, timing, and audio.

Previous machine findings leave the active chapter queue. New proofing results describe the new source.

Read [what happens to findings and pickups](/recordings/replacement-effects) before replacement if you are midway through a review.

If proofing fails after replacement, follow [Proofing needs attention](/troubleshooting/proofing-failed).
