# What happens when you replace a recording

> Understand which findings change and why older pickup timecodes stay the same.

Each chapter has one current recording. A completed replacement upload switches the chapter to the new file without deleting the pickup work you have confirmed.

| Item | After replacement |
| - | - |
| Previous machine findings | Leave the active chapter queue and remain associated with the previous source. |
| New proofing findings | Appear for the replacement recording when processing completes. |
| Confirmed pickups | Stay in the queue or Completed section, according to their existing status. |
| Manually marked pickups | Stay associated with their manuscript passage and keep their status. |
| Pickup source details | Keep the original filename, timecode, and audio when linked to a recording. |
| Book equivalence rules | Continue to apply to future proofing in the same project. |

## Why a pickup still plays the old file

The old audio explains why you created that pickup. A **From previous recording** label makes that source explicit. Its timecode is not automatically moved to the corresponding moment in the new file.

## A replacement is not a clean slate

Completed pickups stay completed. Open pickups stay open until you finish or otherwise update them. New results may identify work in a passage you reviewed earlier; listen to the new recording before deciding.

## If another tab still shows old findings

Refresh the chapter queue. Findings from a replaced source cannot be used to create new pickups from an old view.
